Stay Safe on the Roads This Summer!

Warmer weather means busier roads with increased traffic, construction, and people on the move. To help make sure that your trip is as safe and enjoyable as possible, we have some tips for you!

  Before You Leave

Did you know that summer driving safety starts before you even hit the road? Before you start your trip, it’s a good idea to bring your car into your Balise dealership to have it serviced. Whether it’s a tune-up, oil change, battery check, or tire rotation, our factory-trained technicians can help ensure that your car is ready for your road trip.

Some other things you should check before hitting the road include:

  • Tire pressure and tread
  • Headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and emergency flashers
  • Coolant, oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid levels
  • Condition of belts and hoses
  • Wear and tear on wiper blades
  • A/C is working properly

While keeping a well-maintained vehicle can greatly reduce the likeliness of it breaking down, unfortunately, even the most well-kept vehicles can still experience a breakdown on a long trip. That’s why it’s highly encouraged to always keep an emergency roadside kit in your car. This kit should include things that can help you call for help, fix an issue with your car, or survive if necessary, such as:

  • Cell phone charger
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Jack for changing a tire
  • Basic tools and duct tape
  • Nonperishable food and drinking water
  • Emergency blankets, towels, and coats

  During the Trip

On a long road trip, driving for hours on end can get exhausting, especially for the driver. It can make the trip feel less tiring if you plan enough time to stop along the way for everybody to get out and stretch, get something to eat or drink, or switch drivers if necessary. While driving a long distance can get boring, if you’re the driver, your only responsibility is to keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and concentrate on driving.

Our roads see an increase in traffic, construction, motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians in the summer months, making it even more crucial for drivers to make sure they’re sharing the road. Drivers should leave more distance between themselves and motorcyclists, as they do not have the protection of a four-wheel vehicle and motorcycles can stop more quickly. Drivers also need to be sure to go slow when in areas where they may encounter pedestrians in the road, as the pedestrians may not always see your car coming.

Unfortunately, no matter how careful of a driver you are, accidents still happen. If you get in an accident, Balise Collision Repair is there to help! With 24-hour towing, free written estimates, and on-site licensed appraisers and rental cars, our team can quickly get your car back on the road, covered by a lifetime warranty. In case of an accident, you also want to make sure that you’re covered by a quality insurance policy. If you need better coverage, Expert Insurance is there to protect your vehicle, and all of your assets, with customized coverage and great rates!
